The Zagreb City Zoo will participate in the Zagreb Hunting Fair this year as well.

In the area of the City of Zagreb, 12 hunting grounds have been established and for areas where the founding of hunting grounds is prohibited, two wildlife protection programmes have been implemented: the Wildlife Protection Programme for the Medvednica Nature Park (PZD Medvednica) and the Wildlife Protection Programme for the City of Zagreb (PZD Zagreb). In the hunting grounds and the PZD Medvednica area, wildlife management and protection are entrusted to hunting associations, while in the PZD Zagreb area, the programme is jointly conducted by the Zagreb Zoo and the Zagreb Hunting Association.

Within the scope of the Wildlife Protection Programme, the Zagreb Zoo cares for injured, wounded, and sick wildlife in cooperation with the City Office for Economy, Environmental Sustainability and Strategic Planning and the Zagreb Hunting Association. The catchers of the Dumovec Shelter for Abandoned Animals capture injured wild animals and transport them to the Zagreb Zoo's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center for recovery.

Through an exhibition of various live animal traps for foxes, crows and wild boars, as well as a brief lecture and demonstration on how the wild boar trap works, the Zoo will show how it implements the wildlife protection programme and how the public can get involved and help.

The Zagreb Zoo will present to the fair visitors the most common types of snakes that live in Zagreb and its surroundings. Through education, the Zoo aims to supplement existing knowledge, dispel prejudices and encourage understanding of the importance of every animal, including snakes, for the biodiversity of Croatian fauna and nature in general. Visitors will also learn how to behave when encountering a live snake in the wild.
