INTERLIBER - A FAIR FOR ALL GENERATIONS

The national literary event INTERLIBER, 46th International Book Fair will be held in its traditional term from 12 - 17 November 2024 to the great contentment of all lovers of the written word.

Interliber is the platform for the promotion of books, writers, reading, science and knowledge that gathers the most important publishers and booksellers under a single roof. At Zagreb Fair, all major domestic publishers will present an extremely rich programme of new editions from a wide variety of fields, proving that Croatian publishing knows and finds its way to book fans.

Interliber will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Zagreb.

​Pavilions 5, 6, 7 and 7a will host more than 300 exhibitors from 14 countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, France, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Netherlands, Germany, USA, Slovenia, Serbia, Sweden, UK) covering over 13,000 m2 of exhibition space.

GUEST OF HONOUR AT INTERLIBER - PÉTER NÁDAS

 The guest of honour at this year’s fair is one of the most distinguished Hungarian authors - Péter Nádas, author of “Parallel Stories“ and “A Book of Memories“.
 
Péter Nádas, prose writer, essayist and dramatist, is a contemporary classic of Hungarian and European literature. Before he devoted himself exclusively to writing, he was also involved in journalism and worked as a photographer and editor. Péter Nádas is a member of the Széchenyi Academy of Letters and Arts in Budapest and the Berlin Academy of Arts. His works have been translated into numerous world languages.
 
His guest appearance has been organized in cooperation with Zagreb Fair and Fraktura publishing house, which also published his latest book "Writing as a Profession", which Péter Nádas will present on Wednesday, 13 November. The presentation will be moderated by Seid Serdarević, editor-in-chief of Fraktura.

COUNTRY IN FOCUS - HUNGARY

This year’s country in focus is Hungary. Hungary will evoke its thriving cultural scene through a literary, artistic, gastronomic and cultural programme. Hungarian writers with recently published (fiction and non-fiction) works in Croatian language will be presented, among others Krisztina Tóth, László Földényi, András Forgách, Sándor Jászberényi, Noémi Orvos-Tóth.
 
For the younger audience, Hungary will prepare a variety of programmes intended for children featuring works by Éva Janikovszky, Magda Szabó and Árpád Kollár. On the occasion of recent translations, Hungarian literary classics such as Endre Ady, Gyula Krúdy, Milán Füst and János Pilinszko will also be featured through individual programmes.
 
The past, present and future of the Croatian-Hungarian literary exchange will be discussed at the panel on the relations between the Croatian and Hungarian publishers on Wednesday, 13 November, with keynote speakers such as Seid Serdarević, Xenia Detoni, Bence Sárközyja and Gábor Csordás. After these discussions, Croatian and Hungarian publishers will have the opportunity to meet and negotiate on publishing rights.
 
Hungary will be presented daily on Interliber's music stage, where there will be traditional music, crossover folklore music, children's songs, operettas and Hungarian songs sung in the Croatian language.
 
Hungarian gastronomy is world famous, therefore the presence of Hungary cannot be complete without a gastronomy stand at the fair where visitors are welcome to buy and taste the specialties of this country.

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

In addition to a wide range of books, Interliber pays special attention to the accompanying programme of events, which regularly attracts many visitors. Panels, workshops, lectures and meetings with authors are an important part of this fair because they create an interactive atmosphere that contributes to cultural exchange and development of the readership. The accompanying programme is an ideal platform for discussing current literary topics and promoting science.
 
We wish to announce more than 200 hours of professional programme to take place at four stages in the pavilions 5, 6 and 7, and at the open-air space.
 
As part of the programme for children and young people titled "One Hundred Percent Literate", we organize several very educational and interesting workshops: “Enrich Your Knowledge” by Toni Milun, “Little Workshop of Glagolitic Script” - prof. Darko Žubrinić, president of the Society of Friends of Glagolitic Script, “To Risk of Not? Secrets of Rational Thinking in Unstable Situations” - Petra Posedel Šimović, Graffiti Street Art workshops organized by Rockmark.hr. There will also be the HighFive quiz for upper elementary and secondary school students, while the National Team Quiz Championship will be organized by the Croatian Quiz Association on Saturday. 
 
Korado Korlević, one of the leading Croatian astronomers, will hold a lecture on Thursday, 14 November, on the topic “Managing Creativity”.
 
The Publishers and Booksellers Association at the Croatian Chamber of Economy has prepared its traditional PREMIUM PROGRAMME.
 
THE SHEEP IN THE BOX is a literary award for the best Croatian picture book, and it will be presented on Saturday, 16 November.

PROFIL - Jasen Boko, Vanda Čizmek, Zorana Jagodić, Željka Godeč, Maja Šimleša will be presented and will sign their books at the stand, and Mile Kekin will perform during the promotion of his new book "Soundtrack for Life". Profil will also host book bloggers, as well as organize a discussion between Jasen Boko and Krešimir Sučević Međeral on the topic of travelogues and travel.

ROCKMARK - their programme includes: Psihomodo pop promotion of the Songbook with the greatest hits, Brkovi promotion of a comic strip, promotion of the book "It Was the Most Beautiful Spring of my Life" - detailed records about Dinamo's historic season, the Cats and Panks workshop.
 
SANDORF - as part of the Lit-Quest Europe project, joined by partners Sandorf, Založba Goga and the Helsinki Literary Agency, which supports the EU Creative Europe programme, Sofi Živković, a Serbian publisher and editor, will present herself and compare the literary scene and trends in our region and in the Persian Gulf. Violeta Radkova, managing director of a Bulgarian literary non-profit organization will present the results of a two-year research on the experiences of women writers.

OFFICIAL OPENING

The official opening of the fair will take place on Tuesday, 12 November 2024 at 10.30 h at the gallery of the pavilion 5. The fair will be inaugurated by Zoran Milanović, President of the Republic of Croatia.

  • Friday and Saturday 10:00 - 21:00 h

Admission to the fair is free.
 
Parking for all visitors of Interliber around Zagreb Fair venue is free.
