The country in focus of 2024' Interliber Zagreb will be Hungary.
Hungary will be represented with a wide array of literary, artistic, gastronomical and cultural programs showcasing its thriving cultural scene.
The guest of honor of this year's fair will be one of Hungary's most prominent author, Péter Nádas, author of Parallel Stories and A Book of Memories.
Other Hungarian writers with recently published (fiction and nonfiction) volumes in Croatian to be expected are: Krisztina Tóth, László Földényi, András Forgách, Sándor Jászberényi, Noémi Orvos-Tóth among others.
For the younger audiences, Hungary will prepare a variety of children-oriented programs featuring works form Éva Janikovszky, Magda Szabó and Árpád Kollár.
On occasion of recent translations, Hungary's literary classics such as Endre Ady, Gyula Krúdy, Milán Füst and János Pilinszky will also feature with individual programs.
The past, present and future of Croatian-Hungarian literary exchange will be discussed at a professional meeting between editors and translators with keynote speakers such as Seid Serdarević, Xenia Detoni, Bence Sárközy and Gábor Csordás. Following these discussions, we provide the oportunity for Croatian and Hungarian publishers to meet and negotiate publishing rights so that our visit will bear fruits in the coming years as well.
Hungary will also be represented every day on the Interliber music stage where traditional music, crossover folk music, child songs, operetta and Hungarian songs sang in Croatian will also feature.
Hungary's gastronomy is world-famous, therefore our presence cannot be complete without a gastronomy stand at the fair where visitors are welcome to purchase and taste our countries specialities.
As part of Hungary's visit we also plan to organise side events with cooperation of the University of Zagreb, the Croatian National Theatre and the Hungarian Liszt Institute.
